Fam trips, where brokers and stakeholders experience what the Gulf has to offer, were also highlighted as essential for the region’s growth.Events like the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix have proven to be key attractions for yachts in the Gulf. Panellists called it "the most successful yachting magnet in the industry," as yachts tend to return after attending such events. However, regulatory challenges and limited cruising options currently hinder the region’s potential to fully capitalise on these opportunities.The discussion also touched on geopolitical dynamics and their impact on the region’s yachting sector. While political challenges have not significantly deterred yachting, insurance costs and logistical barriers, such as a 30 percent price increase for rounding the Cape of Good Hope, remain concerns. Hosted by Andrea Tagliaferro of Yacht Femme, three awards were presented to showcase trailblazing women shaping the future of yachting.This pioneering event not only honoured their achievements, but also served as a source of inspiration, highlighting the transformative impact of female professionals across various disciplines.The event began with nominations opening on 12 August and closing on 1 October. During the administration of Richard Nixon in 1969, the yacht underwent refurbishment and was renamed after Nixon’s daughter Patricia. The yacht was sold at auction in 1971 and was passed into private hands once again, marking her first civilian owner since Sewell Avery in 1931. Her new owner, Joseph B. Keating, renamed the yacht The Presidents and chartered her for dinner parties and day cruises. But by the late 1990s, the yacht was put up for sale at auction once again, after falling into a state of disrepair. He said that transparency throughout the process is vital from a yard’s point of view, ensuring that clients understand the complexities and timelines involved in a new-build project.Roy shared his experiences dealing with legal disputes involving shipyards and cash flow difficulties and how these often arise from misaligned expectations and financial management issues. Sharing his insight, he discussed some of the challenges that superyacht and land-based adventure travellers face, offering an insight into how the Cookson Adventures team set up a rugged infrastructure to ensure that their trips - which can last years - run as smoothly as possible.In addition, Nick explained how clients look to spend their time onboard their yachts, whether as owners or charterers, and gave the delegates an insight into some of the scientific and conservation projects that clients have undertaken in recent years.
